You may be dissatisfied with your current cell phone service, maybe you’re not getting good reception, maybe you found a better deal elsewhere, or maybe you found a better phone…whatever the reason, unfortunately once you sign up for Lifeline service you must complete one year of service with the provider you chose before switching to another. This is a new rule put into place by the USAC who oversees the Lifeline program and this helps them keep overall costs down. This is why it’s so important to research all the available providers to make sure the one you choose you will be happy with.
The biggest complaints I hear are 1) I get no service at my house and 2) My phone doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that my friend’s has. My suggestion: ask your neighbors and friends which provider they use and if they are happy with the reception. Look at all the free phones being offered and make sure you find one with all the features you are looking for.
